a meme is commentary on small aspects of life. i wasn't trying to demean the kony movement. i was trying to be funny. because this is my blog. i thought it was obvious that i knew social media can actually make a difference (considering that the whole world saw all of what happened in egypt not so long ago.)
if you honestly got the impression from me as a person, with my values and opinions, not solely from a meme on my blog, that i thought so little about this terrible thing and believed it was trivial and not worth my time, i'm extremely offended. and it hurts me that you've lost touch with me as a person in that way.
part of the irony this meme brings up as well is that the war in uganda and the invisible children movement has been going on for a very, very long time. the fact that a hollywood-style gimmick is the only thing that can spread the word is interesting to think about.

meghan was a social activist before it was cool. noted.
noted from where? i wasn't trying to imply that
idk, I just don't really get all the cynicism surrounding the Kony issue, because I don't really see anything negative coming of it. I get that most of the people reposting the video/story aren't experts on the subject, but they aren't claiming to be either. They're spreading awareness, and awareness of a problem is the first and probably the most important step to actually moving towards solving it. Social networking sites may seem like superficial ways of doing this, but they're probably the most effective ways of reaching out to people, especially of our generation. I just find it hard to criticize the movement, especially when I compare the cause's condition now to the slow progress it was making prior to its explosion on the internet.
i deleted that comment right after i posted it because i thought it was condescending and i didn't want it to seem like anything going on right now between us was clearly becoming immature residual on our blogs. HMM?? JESUS CHRIST
Okay, calm down folks.
I do think it's kind funny that we learned about this in 9th grade AP and now people know about it...
